3.5 Very Good

I have to admit that I saw this film at least 3 months after the release. I do feel bit sad not to see this film in theater as I always believe good films deserve the audience in right way.

Dasvadania - Goodbye in russian. There are very few film-makers and artist who view the cinema in very pure, innocent, straight forward and hearty way. Vinay Pathak is indeed a top in that league. He has made this film in his own way - it's Vinay Pathak from start to finish. The story, narration, script and presence is very simple, cute, innocent and bit silly (in good way) at some places. It's a story of a middle-age guy who suddenly discoveres his life is 3 months affair. Till this time he never realises what he was missing in the daily routine of common man - where one always give away its happiness and live supressed from others.

Amar, rather than fighting with the death - he chose to win over the life. He lists 10 things in his life he would like to do before he die. Well, these are the dreams of very simple man who do not have overcomplicated dreams OR wishes. He chose to list down the things he always wanted to do but never accomplished. Let it be his childhood love Neha where he admits his love without saying a single word, OR going to foreign (Russia) and meet his best friend. In the way, he also discoveres a true love in form of russian call-girl.

The story is represented in very soothing, simple and cute manner. Even after his death he gives away so much to his people that everyone would remember him after his death if not when he was alive.

On bit flip-side direction / presentation does seem bit outdated and over-cute in some cases - but it's the honesty that stands out. Story no-where intended to gain sympathy for him but rather to fall in love of that character. The music does flow with film very well. The cinematography and other technical aspects could have been bit better - but it's the heart and soul of the film overshadow these things.

Vinay Pathak carries the whole film on his shoulders. His honesty, truthness and nature scores over the otherwise very predictable story. It's the normal Vinay Pathak gang works out very well in small roles.

I will go with 3.5 out of 5 for Dasvadania; watch it if you wants to see the missing honesty and soul in normal masala films.
