Kenneth Mitchell, Captain Marvel and Star Trek: Discovery actor, dies at 49 following ALS complications

Canadian actor Kenneth Mitchell, known for his work in television and films like Captain Marvel and Star Trek: Discovery, has died at the age of 49. He passed away on February 24 due to ALS complications.

In an official statement shared on his Instagram account, it read, “For five and a half years, Ken faced a series of awful challenges from ALS. And in truest Ken fashion, he managed to rise above each one with grace and commitment, to living a full and joyous life in each moment. He lived by the principals that each day is a gift and we never walk alone.”

 

 

 

In 2020, Kenneth Mitchell announced that he was diagnosed with ALS in 2018. The actor had been on wheelchair since 2019. While talking to People publication, he had said, “I think it, over time, became the theme of us accepting this with grace. Trying to see the beauty in it, in a way. I’ll never forget, one of my Star Trek co-stars told me, because they had dealt with some trying times with illnesses and stuff, and I remember them communicating to me, saying, ‘You have a choice. You can look at this in many different ways, but maybe try to look at this like a gift where you get to experience life in a way that most people don’t.'”

 

Kenneth Mitchell appeared in various TV series and movies, gaining recognition for his versatile performances. Some of his notable roles include Star Trek: Discovery in which he played multiple including Klingon Empire leaders Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik.

 

He was also a part of Jericho where he portrayed the role of Eric Green, a character in the post-apocalyptic drama series set in the aftermath of a nuclear attack on the United States. The actor appeared in period TV drama The Astronaut Wives Club, Frequency, a TV series adaptation of the film of the same name, Switched At Birth, Ghost Whisperer among others.
