James Gunn confirms Superman: Legacy won’t have origin story of Clark Kent

Back in March 2023, filmmaker James Gunn announced that he is set to direct a new Superman movie. In April 2023, Superman: Legacy officially entered the pre-production stage. In the month of June, the makers announced David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will play the new Superman and Lois Lane. Now, Gunn has updated on what route he is taking for the film.

James Gunn has confirmed that Superman: Legacy won’t be an origin story for Clark Kent. A day ago, he took to his BlueSky social media page and responded to a fan on the possible storyline for his upcoming directorial. The director said, “I think we've seen his origin enough in film at this time!"

 

As per Variety, “Gunn is directing the project from his own screenplay, based on the character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.  Peter Safran will produce.” The new entry, which Gunn wrote and will direct, is slated for release on July 11, 2025.

 

Superman: Legacy marks the beginning of a new era in the DCU, with Gunn and Peter Safran leading the charge in creating a cohesive universe of interconnected films and TV shows.
