As anticipation builds for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, director Tatsuya Yoshihara and assistant director Masato Nakazono reveal the creative philosophy guiding the adaptation. The duo, who also helmed the hit anime series, say their mission was simple to make audiences feel exactly what they did when they first read the manga.

EXCLUSIVE: Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc director Tatsuya Yoshihara on staying true to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s vision; says, “We wanted to capture the exact feel of the manga”

Yoshihara recalls, “Denji and Pochita’s poor yet precious relationship left a lasting impression. As Denji grows up, he acts in unpredictable, emotional ways that keep readers hooked. We wanted that same tension and warmth on-screen.”

Nakazono adds, “When I first read it in Shonen Jump, I thought this doesn’t feel like Jump! It has heroism, but it’s raw and strange in the best way.”

To honour author Tatsuki Fujimoto’s vision, the team re-examined every panel, decoding its purpose and meaning. “We discussed why Fujimoto-san drew something a certain way and reinterpreted it visually while keeping the core emotion intact,” says Nakazono.

Yoshihara adds, “Our focus was on light, colour, shadows, and even micro-gestures. We wanted to give both new viewers and manga readers the same rush now amplified with motion and sound.”

The film, he says, “is part romance, part madness a Chainsaw Man experience that will make fans fall in love all over again.”
