As floods ravage Manali, Kangana Ranaut says her restaurant made just Rs 50 in sales: “I pay Rs 15 lakh in salaries”

Heavy rainfall and subsequent landslides and flash floods have wreaked havoc across northern India, leaving large parts of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab reeling under destruction. In the middle of ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts, actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, visited affected areas to take stock of the situation.

During her interaction with residents and the press, Ranaut expressed her distress over the financial toll the disaster has taken on her restaurant in Manali. “Yesterday, my restaurant made only Rs 50 in sales, and I pay Rs 15 lakh in salaries. Please understand my pain too. I am also a Himachali and a resident of this place,” she said.

 

Her remarks came as dozens of families in her constituency continued to grapple with the aftermath of landslides, flash floods, and heavy rainfall that have left homes unsafe and livelihoods disrupted.

 

Ranaut toured Solang and Palchan, accompanied by BJP leader and former Manali MLA Govind Singh Thakur. Local residents briefed her on the extent of the damage, noting that 15 to 16 houses had been declared unsafe, forcing families to relocate.

 

Villagers also raised concerns about Solang’s vulnerability, stressing that the Beas river is gradually eroding the mountain on which the settlement stands. They urged immediate intervention, suggesting that diverting the river’s flow was essential to prevent further damage.
