EXCLUSIVE: “If you finish the film industry, lakhs of families will be destroyed”- Nawazuddin Siddiqui

The Hindi film industry popularly known as Bollywood is over 100-years-old . It is the major source of entertainment in the country. Despite the theatres shutting down in mid-March owing to the pandemic, news related to Bollywood has been making a lot of noise, especially on social media. From sections of Twitter boycotting films and shows, to celebrities landing in controversies, the past few months has seen it all. Talking to Bollywood Hungama, Nawazuddin Siddiqui opened up about this obsession with Bollywood and why he feels that the industry should not be blamed for everything.

Talking about people constantly talking about Bollywood, Nawazuddin said, “This is a glamorous field and everyone will have an interest in this field, because things like breaking news come from here. Bollywood is in our veins. From using Bollywood songs at our weddings to discussing Bollywood films in our daily conversation, Bollywood does come up in a common man’s life.”

 

Talking further about blaming the industry when a few people get involved in any kind of controversy, he said ,“People love to listen to gossip and in the last 5-6 months Bollywood has provided a lot of it apart from the films. But it is wrong to say that the industry is at fault always. You cannot blame the entire industry because of any one person. The industry is not run by 5-6 people, there are many people involved. Before defaming the industry, you should think there are also action directors, costume designers, the audience and actors who are a part of the industry. The industry is made of all these people and not just 4-5 stars. The industry is because of a lot of people and we should think about them as well as they are on the edge. If you finish the industry, lakhs of families will be destroyed.”
