Actor Ali Merchant changes honeymoon destination plans last minute from Maldives to Thailand; says, “My country comes first”

The newlyweds Ali Merchant and wife Andleeb have been painting the town red with their social media posts. The couple, who tied the knot in November last year, apparently had plans to take off for their honeymoon this month and had locked Maldives as their destination. However, with the ongoing row between the two countries, the couple opted for a last minute change of plans. Not only did they change their destination but they also decided to visit Lakshwadeep islands, which is the new destination trending across on social media.

Ali Merchant and his wife Andleeb Zaidi decided to take off for their honeymoon on Monday morning to Thailand, but not before they revealed that this was a sudden change of plans since they had scheduled to visit Maldives. Ali Merchant’s decision to change his plans came after Mariyam Shiuna, Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment in the Maldives, called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "clown" and a "puppet" in now-deleted posts on X. Furthermore, the row widened when a minister not only compared the tourism between the countries but even mocked the beauty of Indian beaches. Followed by these, several Bollywood celebs supported the idea of PM’s #ExploreIndianIslands.

 

Actor Ali Merchant took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his two cents on the comments made by Maldives officials and posted, “Opted for a sudden change in honeymoon plans—Maldives to Thailand this time. Putting my country first, always Excited about our next destination, Lakshadweep! Thanks to PM Modi for letting us discover this beautiful island. (folded hand emoji) #PrioritizingCountry #BoycottMaldives #ExploreIndia .”

 

 

Not just Ali Merchant, but many other Bollywood biggies like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Shraddha Kapoor, etc have supported to promote Lakshadweep tourism.

 

Speaking about Ali Merchant, the actor has been part of the TV industry for a long time now will next be seen as the lead with Nyrraa Banerji in his debut web show Libaas.
