8 lesser-known facts about T-Series' Made In India: A Titan Story that make the Jim Sarbh-starrer even more fascinating

While viewers have been discussing the performances and storytelling, several interesting behind-the-scenes details have also come to light. Here are eight lesser-known facts about the series:

Recreating India of the late 1970s and 1980s was a major undertaking

The production team reportedly invested significant effort in recreating the period setting. From costumes and office spaces to advertising styles and industrial environments, various elements were designed to reflect the look and feel of India during the late 70s and 80s.

Another real-life role for Jim Sarbh

Jim Sarbh has built a reputation for portraying real-life personalities on screen. The actor revealed that nearly 80–90% of his career has involved biographical characters, making Xerxes Desai another addition to a long list of real-world figures he has brought to life.

Naseeruddin Shah’s preparation impressed the cast

According to members of the team, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah arrived on set exceptionally prepared. Several scenes reportedly required very few retakes, with some being finalized in the very first take itself.

Classic Hindi songs helped build the atmosphere

The makers incorporated popular Hindi songs from earlier decades throughout the series. The music was used to recreate the emotional mood and cultural backdrop of 1980s India.

Limited archival material posed a challenge

Since there is relatively little archival footage available of Titan founder Xerxes Desai, Jim Sarbh relied extensively on research, discussions, and his own interpretation to shape the character.

Jim Sarbh chose realism over prosthetics

Instead of relying on wigs or elaborate hairpieces, Sarbh reportedly shaved part of his head every day during filming to achieve Desai’s balding look. Off-camera, the actor often wore caps and hats while shooting the series.

Vintage elements were used extensively

To capture the era authentically, the show incorporates archival footage, retro-inspired visuals, vintage production design, and references to the cultural landscape of post-independence India.

An unconventional subject turned into a mainstream drama

The series revolves around the growth of a watch company, a subject not traditionally associated with mainstream entertainment. However, critics have noted how director Robbie Grewal approaches the material through human relationships, ambition, and personal struggles, making the story accessible to a wider audience.

Streaming on Amazon MX Player, Made In India: A Titan Story chronicles the rise of Titan and the visionaries behind one of India’s most recognized consumer brands. Through its blend of corporate history, character-driven storytelling, and period detailing, the series offers viewers a look at an important chapter in India’s business landscape.
