Box Office: Thugs of Hindostan surpasses Sanju; becomes the highest opening weekend grosser of 2018

2018 seems to be a rather fruitful year for the industry, with multiple films making it big at the box office window. Now the latest release Thugs of Hindostan that hit a massive 5000 screens last week opened on a thunderous note at the box office, with opening day collections being pegged well past the Rs. 50 cr mark.

In this box office analysis we take a look at the opening weekend collections of Thugs of Hindostan while comparing the same to previous releases of 2018. Collecting a staggering Rs. 123 cr the Aamir Khan – Amitabh Bachchan starrer has managed to surpass the collections of the previously released Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanju that had collected Rs. 120.06 cr to become the highest opening weekend grosser of 2018. Apart from Sanju, the business of Thugs of Hindostan has also managed to out beat other releases like Padmaavat that collected Rs. 114 cr, Baaghi 2 that collected Rs. 73.10 cr, Gold that collected Rs. 70.05 cr, Satyameva Jayate that collected Rs. 52.25 cr, Badhaai Ho that collected Rs. 46 cr, Raid that collected Rs. 41.01 cr, Pad Man that collected Rs. 40.05 cr, and Sui Dhaaga that had collected Rs. 36.60 cr.

 

Currently with Thugs of Hindostan running in theatres with literally no competition all that remains to be seen is whether the film goes on to become one of the highest opening week grosser of 2018. Interestingly, with no other big ticket released in the coming weeks, expectations are that Thugs of Hindostan will enjoy an unopposed run at the box office maximizing collections.
