The reason why Gadar stuck to June 15th:

Everyone knows of the clash between GADAR-EK PREM KATHA and LAGAAN. But not many are aware that Sunny Deol had set a pre-condition that he would dub for the film before anyone else does, only if the film releases on June 15. Sunny told me specifically and even took an assurance from us that we will release the film on June 15, since he wants to release his home-production, INDIAN, on August 15 and therefore, wants an 8-week gap between the two films, GADAR producer Nitin Keni reveals. In fact, Sunny called up Keni a couple of times even after he had dubbed for the film, reminding him to stick to the release date and not postpone it for any reason. So when Jhamu Sughand, the presenter of LAGAAN, approached Keni to avoid the clash, Keni expressed his inability since he had given his word to Deol.
