Blast shot Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Money Sharma & Mrigank Dhaniwala, September 25, 2009 - 15:50 IST

The problem in this shot was that the jeep would go up first before it blasts and the characters react very late in the shot.

So the vfx team did a split screen and tracked a clean plate on the background totally removing the jeep. But in the end they had to roto the characters as the debris would fall all over the place behind the characters.

The blast it self would not work, so the vfx team had to rework the animation of the jeep, so that it would blast on ground and then raise up in the air.

The blast was shot on the actual location, thus making the extraction of the explosion a real challenge, series of paint and roto and Luma key was used for the purpose

The ground blast was from a totally different plate, as there was no ground blast in the actual plate, which was blended with the actual blast.

For the blending of the two plates the vfx team had used a live fx elements of a explosion, thus to make the transition seamless. Fire is a phenomenon which can not be cheated. Thus they tried to use as much real fire as possible.
