The Climax

The climax was originally shot on the rooftops of Philadelphia and the creative brief was to make it look like a New York high-rise. The VCL team had to roto (cut) out the foreground and insert CG and matte painted buildings in the background. Hence, the entire cityscape that you see in the 'After' image is a combination of matte paintings and CG projection.
"This was definitely one of the most complicated sequences of the film. The trick was to make it look like New York and not anything else. So it was not only a challenge in CG but also in compositing where both the live-action footage and CG backgrounds had to blend in colours, perspective and depth," adds Deepal.
On how the bullet shot (hitting John) was accomplished, Deepal adds, "The bullet has been actually shot in camera. In post-production we just painted out the debris flying off, in order to make the stunt better."
