Finding herself in the midst of a controversy yet again, Mahira Khan is once again receiving flak from her fans on social media for a post that she shared related to her recent release Verna. Her next Verna, which also features Haroon Shahid and Zarrar Khan in lead roles, is already facing several censor troubles owing to the scenes that depict violence against women in the film. And now, when Mahira recently shared her thoughts about the film being inspired by reality and the way women fight in the real world, she was yet again slammed by her fans for speaking against her country.
Mahira Khan gets slammed by her fans for her social media post on a certain ‘disclaimer’Mahira Khan, shared this post as a ‘disclaimer’ that is apparently also a part of Verna’s disclaimer [as captioned by her] on her Instagram page wherein the post read, ‘Everything in the film is imaginary. Imaginary because reality is too bitter to be told or shown. Events shown in this film are jokes compared to what has actually been happening in countries like ours.’
For the uninitiated, Verna features Mahira Khan as a rape survivor and the crime being committed by a governor’s son. The plotline however received extreme criticism from the censors because of how the film portrayed a politician’s heir being involved in a heinous crime. On the other hand, Mahira, who not only received flak for her acting on social media, also had to deal with various hate comments that people spewed on her for speaking up against her country. Although Mahira Khan has maintained silence over the recent social media outrage on the comments’ section of her Instagram post, some of her other fans have come out in support of the actress for the same post. The positive comments have them not only appreciating Mahira Khan’s guts to raise voice against crimes but also to bring forth such a tabooed topic and speak about it.

maryamxara: @aleeza_95 there is no harm in depicting the real truth that happens in every society on the big screen, that is the only way people who live in a happy bubble realise what exactly is wrong with the country and how it can be fixed. Change does not happen if you keep your mouth shut. Maybe just maybe because of this film women who have gone through such turmoil can come out and maybe fight for their rights.
This is the second time this year that Mahira Khan has been caught in crossfire. Last month, the actress was seen being slut shammed by the fans after pictures of her smoking and wearing a revealing outfit whilst she was spotted hanging out with ‘good friend’ and Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor went viral. However, speaking up yet again on the same, the actress had mentioned that she understands that the older generation in Pakistan will find it difficult to accept such behavior and hence had added that she had apologized to all the older people who had told her that they were hurt by those pictures.
