It’s that time of the year when all eyes are on the BIG Diwali release that turns out to be true festive entertainer. The film which not just carries good star appeal but also promises to be a true big screen entertainer. Well, that happens to be Golmaal Again which has stayed on to be one of the most awaited films of 2017.
What is surprising though is that so many filmmakers from past as well as present chose to ignore this genre which caters to family audiences and is put together as an all-around entertainer. Pick films in the list of Rs. 100 crore and Rs. 200 crore club and most of these have strong humour element to them. As a filmmaker Rohit Shetty has traditionally chosen this genre and though he went astray in Dilwale where romantic element ended up being an unwanted distraction, things seem to be much better on track in case of Golmaal Again.
For starters, the film doesn’t carrying any pretence in announcing what it truly stands for. With its core pitching as ‘No Logic Only Magic’, it is quite apparent that the makers do not want audiences to mentally stress too much and instead surrender themselves to the fun element that Golmaal Again promises to bring with it. The promo in fact has done its job, what with a largely positive response to what it has to offer. Moreover, the songs that have followed carry an entertaining appeal to them as well which further does the job when it comes to a quintessential Bollywood entertainer being promised to the audience.
As for the big screen appeal, there are ample colours on the frame (Rohit Shetty ishtyle), something that has worked in not just films belonging to the Golmaal franchise but also other entertainers like All The Best, Sunday and of course Chennai Express. All of this ensures that as an audience you are enticed to catch the film on the big screen instead of waiting for an online premiere.
What works big time in favour of the film is the franchise value that it carries. Golmaal has stayed on to be one of the most loved franchises ever since the first one came in 2006. In the 11 years gone by, there has been Golmaal Returns as well as Golmaal 3 , each one turning out to be bigger than the last in the series. As a matter of fact the third one even entered the Rs. 100 Crore Club, hence adding on to the many centuries that Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty have scored over the years.
Now that Golmaal Again is arriving 7 years after the last in the series, expectations are that not just would it be much bigger in terms of scale, it would also emerge as a much bigger entertainer. After all, the franchise has only become huger over the years and with audiences reviving the genre with Judwaa 2 just a couple of weeks back, the timing of Golmaal Again couldn’t have been better.
