Mahira Khan in an exclusive with Faridoon Shahryar before the Masala Awards in Dubai opened up on the controversy regarding her leaked pictures with Ranbir Kapoor.

A strange incident happened in 2017, your pictures were leaked with Ranbir and you were being judged and the strange part is when women judge that too very ruthlessly. As an artist do you feel that you are more vulnerable and end up being cautious?
I guess, maybe unconsciously I have become a little more cautious. It was just an unfortunate sort of an incident and yes lots of things came out of it. A lot of realizations of people judging and all that, but that’s what we have become as a society. Apart from what happened with me I just feel generally because we have social media as a tool. It’s very easy for us to go out there and post something. Before I came on Instagram and twitter, mujhe nahi yaad ki or at least like I don’t remember this much negativity. I know you connect with your fans and there is positivity but anybody can get up and write whatever they want. Take a picture and put it out whenever they want and lots of other things, so I think it’s the time we are living in. Other than being cautious you have to push-back when these things are happening.

It’s extremely impressive that you continue to smile and laugh! Such incidents can affect a person's psyche.
They do, they affect all of us. I am sure every actor tells you that and at some level it does! And you can have an 'I don’t care attitude' which most of the time I feel like but yes of course it affects you. For the world you have to know what you’ve learnt, what you gained and what you’ve lost. Just smile and move on eventually everything gets okay and it gets better.
