Music Review of Daman:

Bhupen Hazarika, the Dadasaheb Phalke award winner, is matchless when it comes to folk tunes. The music of his latest endeavour, DAMAN, directed by Kalpana Lajmi, is soaked in melody and has some heart-warming numbers penned by lyricist Maya Govind. The best song is undoubtedly ‘Gum Sum’, rendered Kavita Krishnamurthy in her inimitable style. But it is the Bhupen Hazarika rendition that keeps you spellbound. The tune is haunting and lingers in your memory even after the song has ended. ‘Sun Sun Goria’ is among Alka Yagnik’s best renditions. She hums the number effortlessly and melodiously. Jaspinder Narula renders the first song of the album, ‘Bhagwati’. It has a mesmerising effect and sets the mood for a soothing journey to a woman’s heart. Hema Sardesai adds pep and zing to ‘Sar Sar Hawa’ and though this number is repeated on the other side too, you don’t mind listening to it again. ‘Hu Hu Pagal Pawan’ is absolutely romantic, while ‘Bahar Hi Bahar’, picturised on Raima Sen and Shaan, has a foot-tapping tune, catering to the listeners of the present-day generation. To sum up, the music of DAMAN will be loved by connoisseurs of good music. The music should be promoted aggressively; otherwise the effort will go in vain. Rating:- * * * (Good).
