Matthew Perry’s family releases statement following Friends star’s death: “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss”

Popular Hollywood actor Matthew Perry, known for his beloved character Chandler Bing in Friends, tragically passed away on Saturday, October 28. The actor was 54 and was found dead at his Los Angeles-area home. As per TMZ report, the actor was found in a jacuzzi at the residence, and the first responders were immediately called for cardiac arrest. However, no foul play was reported, and no drugs were found at the scene. Following his untimely death, his family released a statement.

As reported by PEOPLE publication, his family gave an exclusive statement that they are heartbroken after the tragic death of Perry. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” the family said. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend.” They added, “You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”

 

Warner Bros. TV, which produced Friends, said in a statement, “We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry. Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family. The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans.”

 

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that the first responders arrived at his residence at 4:07 pm on Saturday. An LAPD spokesperson said, “An adult male patient was deceased prior to first response arrival. The patient was found by a bystander who had repositioned the victim where the head was out of water in a freestanding jacuzzi. Firefighters pulled the victim out of the jacuzzi and did a quick medical assessment to find he was deceased.”

 

Matthew Perry was born to John Bennett Perry, Suzanne Morrison who split less than a year after his birth. He was also close to his stepfather, Dateline journalist Keith Morrison. He was best known for playing Chandler Bing on Friends from 1994 to 2004 for 10 seasons. He also went on to work in many projects in TV and movies including Ally McBeal, The West Wing, Fools Rush In and 17 Again.
