Pre-Diwali phase hits biz hard!
The Friday gone by witnessed a plethora of films vying for audience attention. However, it's not only the spate of releases that is perplexing, but why would six films with varied genres -- ranging from rom-com to suspense-thriller to social drama -- risk their fate during the pre-Diwali week? Not only was there a clash for screen space and shows, but even the footfalls got divided in the process. The pertinent question is, with a biggie arriving a week later [KRRISH-3], can these films recover a major chunk of their investment in just one week?

Sure, almost all films are low cost ventures, but the returns were negligible in several cases. In some cases, the shows were called off due to zero audience. Barring MICKEY VIRUS, which features television's funster Manish Paul making his big screen debut. However, even though Manish has a huge fan following on the small screen, MICKEY VIRUS was not able to translate the popularity into footfalls at cineplexes. The biz did escalate, but not to the desired level. Looking at the current scenario, the postponement of SATYA-2 a week after KRRISH-3 seems like a good strategy now.
There has been a drought of hits at the box-office in October. Both BESHARAM and BOSS, the two biggies, were not able to satiate and quench the thirst of the entertainment-hungry spectators. One now awaits KRRISH-3 to fill that void. Let's hope the festival of lights spreads light and brings cheer in an otherwise bleak scenario. Happy Diwali!
