Shadaab Khan reveals he auditioned for Dhurandhar; says rejection was based on ‘suitability’

By Bollywood Hungama News Network Sun May 17 12:11:18 IST Actor Shadaab Khan, son of legendary actor Amjad Khan, has revealed that he had auditioned for a role in the blockbuster film Dhurandhar. While the actor ultimately did not land the part, he spoke positively about the film’s massive success and maintained that the rejection came down to suitability rather than performance.

During an interaction with Times of India, Shadaab shared his admiration for the film and the team behind it. Speaking about the response the Ranveer Singh starrer has received, he said, “Dhurandhar is a very big film, no doubt. It’s a smash hit. People are talking a lot about its success and the numbers it has done.” He further added, “I’ve seen the film and I genuinely think the makers and actors deserve appreciation for what they’ve achieved.”

Opening up about the audition process, Shadaab revealed that he had been approached by casting director Mukesh Chhabra’s agency for a significant character in the franchise. “Yes, coincidentally I had auditioned for Dhurandhar. Mukesh Chhabra’s casting agency had called me in,” he said. According to the actor, the role was substantial and stretched across multiple parts of the film series. “It was actually for a very solid role across both Part One and Part Two. The audition itself went very well. I was quite happy with how it turned out.”

Despite not being selected, Shadaab chose not to disclose details about the character he tested for. Explaining his decision, he stated, “The film is a huge success right now and everybody associated with it has done a fantastic job. I don’t think it would be professional of me to suddenly say, ‘By the way, I had auditioned for this role too.’ Let the actors who got selected enjoy their success. Let the filmmakers celebrate the film”.

The actor also admitted that after the film’s release, he looked up the character out of curiosity and understood why the makers went in a different direction. “After the film released, I saw snippets of the character out of curiosity — just to see who had eventually played the role. And honestly, the physicality, the look, the body type — nothing matched me. So I understood that the rejection was based on suitability. That’s a rejection I can fully accept because sometimes a role simply requires a different face or screen presence. It happens. But yes, it was a very good role and of course, as an actor, you always wish things work out,” he concluded.

Dhurandhar franchise is directed by Aditya Dhar and also featured an ensemble cast that included the likes of Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, among others but is headlined by Ranveer Singh. The first part released on December 5, 2025, whereas the second part hit cinemas on March 19, 2026.
