Box Office: Fast X takes a good start, The Kerala Story has an excellent second week

Things are going well at the box office, what with the month of May turning out to be rather bountiful for exhibitors and distributors. First it was The Kerala Story, alongside that there was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and now there is Fast X which has started on a good note as well.

Let’s talk about the Hollywood action franchise first, which is now bringing on its 10th instalment. Such has been the curiosity around watching this multi-starrer with high speed action that just one promo has been good enough to lend a double digit start to the film. No other form of promotion or marketing has been done for this franchise, which has a steady fan following in India. Hence, while it was a given that a start of over Rs. 10 crores will come for the film, the opening day - despite being Thursday - was even better at Rs. 12 crores*. The film will grow well over the weekend and will comfortably go past the Rs. 50 crores mark by Sunday.

 

As for The Kerala Story, it enjoyed an excellent second week of over Rs. 90 crores as the collections were even better than the first week (Rs. 81 crores). This is just brilliant as it shows how audiences have been genuinely interested in checking it out and that too in hordes. The huge rise in collections came especially during the second weekend and with weekdays being steady as well (except for Thursday when a dip came due to the release of Fast X), the film is on the winning path with its overall numbers standing at Rs. 171.65 crores. Expect the third weekend to now take the ensemble affair past the Rs. 200 crores mark.

 

Meanwhile, IB 71 had a fair first week with collections going past the Rs. 11 crores mark. The film has been managing to find some sort of footfalls and especially on weekdays it stayed rather consistent to bring in around Rs. 4 crores more. As a result, the numbers currently stand at Rs. 11.25 crores*. Yes, had Rs. 15 crores mark already been crossed then a lifetime of over Rs. 20 crores would have been guaranteed with a chance to even hit the Rs. 25 crores mark. The Vidyut Jammwal film can still reach Rs. 20 crores since there is no major Hindi release for the next weeks, which means it would be able to retain screens and shows for itself if there are reasonable footfalls in the second weekend.
