Filmmaker Anurag Basu reviews Gangubai Kathiawadi; says he can’t get over Alia Bhatt’s brilliant performance
Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi was released in theatres on Friday, February 25. The film marks the first collaboration between Alia Bhatt and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film hit the theatres after a long wait owing to the pandemic and the wait has proven to be worthy. The film is seeing people flocking to the theatres and the Housefull board being displayed at theatres.
Several celebrities from the film industry have also expressed their opinion on the film and the praises have been unanimous. Most have also praised the brilliant performance by Alia Bhatt who portrays the indomitable Gangubai.
Filmmaker Anurag Basu who is credited with making films like Barfi, Ludo, Jagga Jasoos among others also took to his Twitter handle to praise the film. "It's been 3 days I have seen #GangubaiKathiawadi & I can't get over Alia's brilliant performance. SLB has of course reinstated his big-screen magic again," he wrote.
"#GangubaiKathiawadi is Sudeep Chatterjee's best work till date. Brilliant cinematography!! @sudeepdop guru phatiye diyecho!!," he further wrote.
Alia Bhatt is currently soaking in all the appreciation she has been receiving for the film. The film has collected nearly Rs. 40 crore over the first weekend of its release despite restrictions in theatre capacity in several states owing to the pandemic. The film also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Seema Pahwa, Jim Sarbh, and Ajay Devgn in a special appearance.
