EXCLUSIVE: Raaj Shaandilyaa reveals he narrated idea of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, but felt Rajkummar Rao was “perfect fit”; says, “He was busy with something and we wanted to start this on right time”

Helmed by the talented Raaj Shaandilyaa, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video has been making waves since its release on October 11. This film promises a "perfect blend of laughter and drama," transporting audiences back to the vibrant and energetic atmosphere of the swinging 90s. With this film, Raaj Shaandilyaa takes on his first collaboration with Rajkummar Rao, a decision that has generated much interest among fans and critics alike.

Rajkummar Rao Over Ayushmann Khurrana

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Raaj was asked if Rajkummar Rao was his original choice for the lead role, especially considering his previous successes with Ayushmann Khurrana in three back-to-back films. Raaj responded candidly, saying, “We narrated only the thought of it to Ayushmann. But he was busy doing something else, and we wanted to make this film at the right time. I felt Rajkummar was a perfect fit for this role. Thus, I did it with Rajkummar.”

Raaj added, “As I had three films with Ayushmann back to back, I thought let’s collaborate with Rajkummar Rao. I have been his fan from the start. Ayushmann and Rajkummar are talented actors. They always give you more than what you ask for, and I enjoyed making this film with Rajkummar so much, which you can see in the form of love from the audience.”

As the conversation progressed further, we asked him to share the challenges of writing a clean comedy. Explaining his take, Raaj asserted, “Comedy is always clean. It’s just there are different variations of it. It also depends on what kind of comedy you are writing; it could be satire, black comedy, or slapstick. I believe a writer needs to pick the right set of words do not make it awkward to watch it with the family. I agree this is, but that is what we have come here for. I am here to make clean comedy.”
