Adnan Sami booked for tax evasion

The woes of Adnan Sami seem to be far from over. While it started off with his marital discord a few years back, this week he was in news for his visa trouble. While on one hand, the good news came in the form of him getting a 3 months extension, on the other, a team of tax officials came knocking at his doors and booked him on charges of tax evasion yesterday. Not just that, the said department has also issued summons, asking him to be present before it on Monday.

Well, the charges against Sami are that he performed as many as 15 shows in India and has not paid service tax ever since July 2012. Talking about the case, Sameer Wankhede (Deputy Commissioner- Service Tax) said that they have registered a case against Adnan Sami, and have also issued summons to him.

 

Buzz is that when the tax officials questioned him about not the non-payment of the taxes, Sami apparently replied that since the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had frozen his bank accounts, he was not in a position to produce the money, a reason that the officials found difficult to digest, which led to him being booked for tax evasion.
