John Wick: Chapter 4 director Chad Stahelski admits he’s open to fifth film in Keanu Reeves’ franchise

After the unexpected finale of John Wick: Chapter 4, director Chad Stahelski has expressed his willingness to explore the possibility of a fifth installment in the Keanu Reeves-led franchise and has shown a positive outlook towards John Wick 5. “It’s very flattering for them to come back and, you know, say ‘We want more’ and it’s not just a cash grab. It’s legitimately the audience wants more,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in a podcast series.

He added, “I think we all need that little bit of time to go, ‘Whew. Let’s see what’s next.’ … If Keanu and I, a few months from now sit down at a whiskey bar in Japan again and go, ‘Yep, we’ll never do another one of those,’ and then all of a sudden go, ‘Yeah, but I got an idea,’ we’re open to it.”

 

As THR reports, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Joe Drake previously told the outlet that “there’s a will and there’s an openness” if the team can find a “credible” way to deliver a fifth installment following John Wick 4’s box office success. In another conversation with Deadline, the director had an optimistic response when asked about a fifth installment, assuring he and Reeves will never turn down a return if it makes sense.

 

“As for John Wick, you will never [hear] Keanu or I say, we’re done. We’re proud of what we’ve done, flattered people want to see more, and we want to continue that and will be there to help out. What Lionsgate decides to do with the properties is up to them.”

 

Furthermore, Peacock has announced that The Continental, a prequel show that has been in development for a long time, will be making its debut in September 2023. Additionally, there are several upcoming installments of the John Wick franchise in the pipeline.
