Bollywood producers hint at a possible strike

Following the footsteps of their counterparts in South India, the FTPGI (Film and Television Producers Guild of India) has now intimated the Government that till the time 12.36% service tax is rolled back, they will not only be forced to discontinue all film shootings from February onwards, but they will also disallow films to release during this time.

 

News is that many actors refrain from paying the service tax from their pocket by telling their producers to pay the said amount, which is over and above their acting fee. Speaking about this, Mukesh Bhatt (President- FTPGI) said that after having spoken to the I & B Ministry and the State Government, they are compelled to enforce a closure by this month end if service tax and VAT are not waived off. Bhatt added that he is saddened to see Government's insensitivity towards their problems in the 100th year of Indian Cinema. Meanwhile, Pahlaj Nihalani opined that there should be pre-budget discussions between the entertainment industry and the government and that the issue must be resolved.Bollywood producers hint at a possible strike
