An official Hindi remake of the 2016 Thai film One Day, Ek Din received mixed-to-negative reviews upon release and reportedly underperformed at the box office despite generating early interest due to its lead cast.
Speaking to journalist Vicky Lalwani, Junaid candidly addressed the film’s reception and admitted that the team had hoped for a better outcome. “We were hopeful. But I guess… It didn’t do well. It happens sometimes. It’s a film that I really liked, I really enjoyed. I think we all really liked and enjoyed it, and I guess… a lot of people did really like it, but I guess most people didn’t like it. That happens sometimes,” he said.
While the film faced criticism over its screenplay and narrative choices, Sai Pallavi’s performance received praise from several reviewers, particularly for bringing emotional warmth and authenticity to her character.
Junaid also spoke about how his father, Aamir Khan, reacted to the film’s disappointing theatrical run. According to him, the senior actor still feels deeply affected when projects fail to meet expectations despite decades of experience in the industry.
“He is still hopeful. Yeah, even after all these years, after seeing everything, it still really bothers him. But he keeps himself busy and gets back to it, and goes back out there and does it all over again,” Junaid shared.
On the professional front, Junaid is reportedly being considered for the third installment of the Ragini MMS franchise. The project is said to be backed by Ekta Kapoor and may feature Tamannaah Bhatia opposite him. There have also been reports suggesting another possible collaboration with Ek Din director Sunil Pandey, though no official confirmation has been announced so far.
