Tusshar Kapoor reveals Jeetendra has no plans to return to acting; says, “He feels that phase of his life is over”

By Bollywood Hungama News Network Thu May 29 20:50:48 IST Actor Jeetendra, a leading star during the 1960s and 70s, has no intention of returning to acting, according to his son, Tusshar Kapoor. Jeetendra was known for delivering several hit films, including Geet Gaya Patharon Ne, Gunahon Ka Devta, Farz, Humjoli, Caravan, Dharam Veer, Parichay, and Nagin.

Jeetendra remained a prominent actor through the 1980s with popular films such as Himmatwala, Tohfa, and Mawaali. However, he stepped away from full-time acting by the mid-1990s and has only made brief cameo or minor appearances in films since 2000.

Tusshar Kapoor shared that his father has no interest in returning to a film set. “He keeps up with today’s cinema, but he’s not keen on being on set again,” he told PTI. “He’s acted in around 200 films and began his career at just 20. He feels that phase of his life is over. I don’t think he was ever inclined toward doing character roles,” Kapoor added.

Kapoor mentioned that when his father decided to retire from acting, he—like many other senior actors at the time—was mostly being offered “stereotypical” roles. He added, “The roles that were offered to senior actors were very stereotypical. Today, there are a lot of very diverse characters. But that wasn't the case back then. He decided to ease out of it. Now, he's more of a businessman.”

Kapoor expressed his hope that his father's legacy would one day be highlighted through a docudrama series. He also believes that a similar tribute should be made for veteran actor Dharmendra. Tusshar said, “I think my dad truly deserves something like that. Actors like Dharam ji and him never really promoted themselves actively”, citing Elvis, the 2022 biographical film about the iconic musician Elvis Presley, as an example.

He said, “Our legends here also deserve that kind of a tribute. That generation of actors, they have such great work, we've learned from those experiences of theirs. So, I think it will be very ‘masaledar’ to have a docudrama of either of these icons from the 60s.”

On the work front, Kapoor is currently appearing in the film Kapkapiii, which hit theatres on May 23.
