Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)

IPL Season 1 - 2008

The Kings XI Punjab co-owned by Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia along with Mohit Burman and Karan Paul started the first season of IPL in a grand way. With star players like Yuvraj Singh, Brett Lee and Kumar Sangakkara, it was Balle Balle time for Kings XI Punjab as they made their way to the Semis of the first edition of IPL. Every time any of her players hit a six or took a wicket, Preity could be seen cheering from the stands. The bubbly actress even gave jadoo ki jhappis to all her players which was more than enough incentive for them to perform well. However, one bad match against the Chennai Super Kings and the Kings XI Punjab were knocked out of the tournament in the semis. Their journey in Season 1 was as colourful as their music video featuring Bhangra King- Daler Mehndi. The only sore point in the tournament apart from their semi-final exit was the infamous slap-gate controversy that took place when Mumbai Indians Harbhajan Singh gave one tight slap to Kings XI Punjabs S. Sreesanth after a heated on-field altercation. In spite of some really tight victories in Season 1, its strange that Kings XI Punjab is still remembered for that one incident. After all who can forget the sight of Sree crying like a baby?

IPL Season 2 - 2009

By the time IPL Season 2 started in South Africa, Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia, who were once a couple, had parted ways. The duo, who stuck to each other like glue, throughout IPL Season 1 were seen cheering their team albeit differently. With some new sponsors like Emirates etc. on board, Kings XI Punjab were expected to fire in a big way. Despite their skipper Yuvraj taking a hat-trick in the same ground of Kingsmead Durban where he smacked 6 sixes, the boys in red and grey never really took off and failed to make the semis much to Preitys disappointment.
