Shot at home in 40 days

Barring a dream sequence and a few scenes, the entire film was shot at my Bandra bungalow, Anupama. The hall was converted into Bhavanis office and the drawing-room into Ram Prasads house. Even the party scene, where Dina and Utpal accidentally meet, was canned in my garden! You will never believe that Golmaal was made in a record time of 40 days. I maintain a strict discipline in terms of the budget and the artistes dates because I am always conscious of the fact that I am making a film with someone elses money. As expected, the film opened to an enthusiastic audience and continued to entertain packed houses for months. Golmaal became a big hit and my distributors, who

were overjoyed, began calling the film Gold-maal! Everything about the film was great. Maybe it had something to do with the personal rapport I shared with my artistes. Golmaal was released in 1979 and it remains one of the most loved family entertainers.

Screen India
