Weekend Box Office Report: Hollywood releases dominate, Bollywood poor.

While there was a point of time when Bollywood often dominated with its star power and commercial masala entertainers, this month however sees a

 

drastic turn of events when it comes to Bollywood films retaining their position at the box office. Interestingly, last week saw a release of three Bollywood films along with one Hollywood release. Weekend Box Office Report: Hollywood releases dominate, Bollywood poor.

 

 

In fact, amongst the Hindi films that released last week, Traffic is based on a real life incident and opened in approximately 1400 screens. Despite having a heart touching story at its core

 

with a good script and power house performers, the film left us disappointed with its box office collections. While the film did not have too much of star power, what also played spoilt sport was

 

the lack of marketing and promotions, low key visibility and limited screens. Due to the non-existence of certain commercial factors which are now quintessential for Bollywood entertainers, the

 

prospects were bleak for the film. It registered only Rs. 40 lakh on Day 1 and collected only Rs. 1.98cr during the weekend.

 

The third installment of the 1920 franchise, 1920 London promised to be a spook fest. Though it has failed to match up to the expectations, the film does include some spooky and eerie

 

moments. However, it fails to hold your attention throughout hence affecting the overall experience. Considering the music as well as the horror genre, though the film opened decently on Friday as

 

it collected Rs. 2.5 crores, it seems the weekend collections has taken a hit and it end up collecting only Rs. 7.5 crores. However, looking at the budget, we believe that these collections may

 

lead to losses eventually for the makers.

 

Amidst them, released One Night Stand, that not only failed miserably when it came to featuring the kind of skin show expected from a Sunny Leone starrer but it also suffered from negative

 

reviews. The film included several other drawbacks like a lame second half and a dull climax. Even the growing popularity of its music couldn't save the fate of the film. It had collected approx.

 

60 lakhs on Day 1 and collected Rs. 1.96cr during the weekend. One Night Stand was released in approximately 1050 screens but it will entail heavy losses to the makers.

 

On the other hand, it is the Hollywood release Captain America: Civil War that seems to have benefited the most. Not only did it embark on a marvelous start on Friday, but it has also

 

garnered Rs. 8.53 crores. Though the figures showed limited growth on Saturday, the movie continued to set the box office registers ringing by registering a collection of Rs. 18.6 crores.

 

As we move towards other releases, Baaghi that is currently in its second week has remained rock steady. It is actually on par with this week's 1920 London and faring extremely better

 

than Traffic as well as One Night Stand. Its weekend collections are second best to Captain America.

 

Further, yet another Hollywood release that continues to rule the roost is The Jungle Book. The Jon Favreau directorial continues to be in its last leg however the movie has attained the
