PhoneBhoot Box Office: Film has a fair start, Kantara (Hindi) heading for Rs. 70-75 crores lifetime

Post pandemic, one thing that has happened quite strongly is that at least 90% of films - be it good or bad - have opened way below expectations. Regardless of what the merits may warrant, the films are opening 50% -70% lesser than the way they should. In such a scenario, it’s time to start re-baselining the expectations as well. Well, at least till the time things come back to normalcy, which could well take at least 6 more months.

This is the reason why even though the cast set up and merits of PhoneBhoot would have warranted an opening of at least Rs. 4-5 crores till 2019; its start of Rs. 2.05 crores needs to be seen in the similar perspective. Yes, it’s not that the budget has gone down by 50%-70% for films since they were sanctioned at least a couple of years back and hence the making too was in accordance. However the need of the hour is for that too to be revisited so that things fall back in place. Till then, an opening like this is fair indeed since there is at least a base been set from where it can grow. The film has seen decent to good reviews coming its way and since audiences who have stepped in are getting entertained, the Katrina Kaif, Ishaan, Siddhanth Chaturvedi and Jackie Shroff starrer is in a real chance to grow over the weekend.

 

As for Kantara (Hindi), it is already assured of growth since that has been the trend for the last three weekends already. Even on Friday, its collections were a cool Rs. 2.10 crores and that has pushed the overall total of this dubbed Kannada film to Rs. 53.75 crores. One of the rare south films to score over Rs. 50 crores in the Hindi version as well, this Rishab Shetty directed and acted drama is set to have a lifetime of at least Rs. 70 crores and could well make a dash towards 75 crores milestone as well. Superhit.
