Box Office: Wajah Tum Ho stays low in Week One; demonetization hits it hard

Wajah Tum Ho took a slow start on its first Friday and couldn't really gather momentum over the weekend. This pretty much set the stage for how the weekdays would progress as the collections weren't really holding up well. As a result, the first week billing for the film is Rs. 13 crore*.

While as a standalone number this is still fair considering the genre and the cast, the fact still remains that the team has delivered much better earlier on. Director Vishal Pandya's last release was Hate Story 3 which had an opening day of Rs. 9.72 crore and Wajah Tum Ho won't do the double of it in its lifetime. On the other hand even Hate Story 2 had an opening weekend of Rs. 15.65 crore, which is another number that won't be matched by Wajah Tum Ho in its lifetime.

Of course, it was also the release factor that turned out to be a massive spanner in the plans for the Sharman Joshi led affair. The film had a good release date of December 2 earlier on but had to be pushed ahead due to demonetization. The pinch can be felt till date as the monetary hassles haven't settled for those who rely on cash transactions. Obviously, they couldn't be expected to pay for a film. Moreover, the film arrived a week before Dangal and those who have to eventually head for some entertainment would but naturally save their money for the Aamir Khan starrer.

Wajah Tum Ho could have done somewhat better than what its final numbers would suggest.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
