Box Office: Varun and Alia's Badrinath Ki Dulhania takes a very good start, brings 12.25 crore on Day One
Expectedly, Badrinath Ki Dulhania has taken a very good start at the Box Office. The film brought in Rs. 12.25 crore on its Day One and that is a very good number, especially considering the fact that this is an exams season due to which youngsters haven't come out yet in full force. As a matter of fact, till about half a decade back, most producers didn't even release their films during this time period and it was largely a dry season at theaters. This Shashank Khaitan directed film is in fact the kind that would have made for a very good Summer viewing. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania had released in July 2014 and had clocked 9 crore on its Day One. Now the second in the franchise, with the same lead couple [Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt] had actually covered a much larger distance by not just bettering the collections by over Rs. 3 crore but that too in a season when romcoms do not usually arrive. One wonders if there would have been a much bigger opening had it arrived around the Valentine's Day.
Nonetheless, the film's opening has ensured that it is a success already and now it is a matter of distance that it eventually manages to cover. The film has a four day weekend for itself, since Monday is a holiday due to Holi, and that would result in a bountiful to be gathered before it moves into the weekdays. Since this is a solo release and there is no competition from past or present, it should be no stopping the film, more so since critically too it has been well received. Badrinath Ki Dulhania is all set to be yet another addition to the good grossers in 2017 after Raees, Jolly LLB 2 and Kaabil.
