Box Office: Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Doctor Strange..., KGF: Chapter 2 [Hindi] bring in around 50 crores in one week

By Joginder Tuteja -

It was an average week at theatres for the films in the running as around Rs. 50 crores came from the three notable all-India releases, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and KGF: Chapter 2 [Hindi]. While the Bollywood flick was the new release of the week, the Hollywood film was in its second week and the Hindi version of the Kannada blockbuster was in the sixth week running. Still, it was the Hollywood film, which actually saw the best collections of the lot.

Box Office: Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Doctor Strange..., KGF: Chapter 2 [Hindi] bring in around 50 crores in one week

Let's talk about Jayeshbhai Jordaar first. The film had disastrous collections of mere Rs. 17.50 crores* in its first week. There was no start, no momentum and no stability whatsoever for the YRF offering which has turned out to be a mere one week affair. The film has found no takers whatsoever and has turned out to be one of the more forgettable films of Ranveer Singh. One also feels sad for Shalini Pandey (of Arjun Reddy fame) who had waited patiently for a couple of years to make her big screen Bollywood debut with this social satire.

On the other hand, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness did manage the best of the collections by bringing in Rs. 21 crores*. However, that too is actually over 80% fall from the first week numbers of Rs. 101.31 crores. Had the film been really accepted by the audiences then the holdover had been far better since its running at some of the most expensive screens [IMAX, 4DX, 3D] which means revenue per footfalls can be much better. Still, the fact also remains that its collections are better than the others and the job is done at Rs. 122.50 crores* so far.

Meanwhile, KGF: Chapter 2 [Hindi] did hold itself well in Week 5 despite a much lower count of screens and shows. Unlike Pushpa [Hindi] that had a free run for almost 10 weeks, the Yash starrer has been facing competition week after week. Still, with over Rs. 10 crores* more coming in, the film has now collected Rs. 431 crores* already. The shows have now further reduced drastically since Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Dhaakad have taken over the country with over 5000 screens between them. As a result, a sharp drop will be felt by the film from Week 6 and beyond.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
