Remember the ‘weekend to lifetime multiple’ concept that Aamir Khan had talked about back in 2013? Well if you don’t, let us remind you that as per Aamir Khan “To measure a film’s success, you need to see the weekend figures and compare it with the total collection. Like 3 Idiots did Rs. 40 crores on the weekend and the total business was Rs. 202 crores, so the weekend multiplied by 5, is the behaviour of the film which is very good. That shows people have gone again and again to see the film. Jo film teen din mein Rs. 100 crore karein aur total mein Rs. 200 crore karein, then that film is not good.” Now going as per this formula we take a look at how successful the Vicky Kaushal starrer Uri is, analysing how big a success the film really was at the box office.
Interestingly, collecting approx. Rs. 225 cr at the domestic box office till date Uri has not only managed to become the first Rs. 200 cr grosser of 2019 but has also managed to surpass the Kangana Ranaut starrer Queen as the most successful film. In fact, as per Aamir’s theory, Queen that released back in 2014 raked in Rs. 61 cr at the box office with Rs. 10 cr coming in on its opening weekend, now if calculated as per the weekend to lifetime multiple Queen featured at the top of the chart with a multiple of 6.1. However, with Uri performing well, the film has managed to draw in Rs. 225 cr till date had managed to collect Rs. 35.73 cr which concludes in a multiple of 6.29.
If that wasn’t all, as per this theory Uri has now managed to become more successful than previous releases like Hindi Medium that had a multiple of 5.54, Bahubali – The Beginning that had a multiple of 5.31, 3 Idiots that had a multiple of 4.99, AndhaDhun that had a multiple of 4.97, OMG Oh My God! that had a multiple of 4.37, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety that had a multiple of 4.10, Stree that had a multiple of 4.03, and even Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion that had a multiple of 3.99.
