The much talked about and keenly anticipated Ranveer Singh starrer Gully Boy finally hit screens last week on Thursday. Directed by Zoya Akhtar the film which released across 3350 screens continued to do well at the box office after opening on a high note.

Not surprisingly, Gully Boy that has been one of the most anticipated releases raked in Rs. 72.45 cr becoming the highest opening weekend grosser of 2019. In fact, the business of the film has managed to surpass previous releases like Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi that collected Rs. 41.35 cr, Uri – The Surgical Strike that collected Rs. 35.73 cr, The Accidental Prime Minister that collected Rs. 11.90 cr, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga that collected Rs. 11.83 cr, Thackeray that collected Rs. 10.50 cr, and Why Cheat India that collected Rs. 6.80 cr.
With Gully Boy still running in theatres, all that remains to be seen whether the film manages to become one of the highest grosser of the year or will its appeal to niche audience affect its overall business.
