Picture abhi baaki hain…

By Bollywood Hungama

* The best is reserved for the last quarter and 2011 is no exception. October had its share of biggies, November witnessed the release of ROCKSTAR, while DESI BOYZ is scheduled to open this Friday. December has several interesting films lined up, which includes THE DIRTY PICTURE, LADIES VS RICKY BAHL and the hugely anticipated DON 2. Hopefully, the business should witness an upswing in the forthcoming weeks. The year 2011 began on a positive note [NO ONE KILLED JESSICA] and I am confident, it would conclude on a euphoric note as well.

* That brings me to DESI BOYZ. Six years after GARAM MASALA worked at the box-office, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham share the screen space in this 'bromance' or 'dramedy' [drama + comedy], as first-time director Rohit Dhawan would like to call his film. The film has everything going in its favor. It's well promoted. It's a solo release. Most importantly, there is a substantial gap between the last Akshay film [THANK YOU] and this one. Ideally, a film of this stature should amass Rs 27 cr to Rs 30 cr nett in its opening weekend. Fingers crossed!

* First BHEJA FRY, then TERE BIN LADEN, more recently DELHI BELLY triggered off a trend. They were game changers, actually. Everyone started making low cost comedies. But not every comic caper/laughathon can lure viewer in hordes. Or make the investors laugh all the way to the bank. The fate of SHAKAL PE MAT JA is for all to see. The film opened to dismal houses and has garnered a meager sum since its release. Moral of the story: No genre is foolproof!
