Raavana Review: A visual treat, a must watch for Sivan’s fan than anyone else!
Even the well versatile; so deservingly successfully and brilliant combo of “Mani-A R Rehman” lost its grip and were very loose in this ‘transformed’ epic. To me challenge for moviemakers with movies made on mythological plots (with storytelling at its best) like Mahabharata and here Ramayanan, is that audience is well equipped with context, attached with characters & dipped in story line. So to make a good impact with such subject (when made so evident too) there needs to be something “exuberant”, either you need to twist the plots or performances should go beyond excellence or bring up amazing presentation style.
Now yes Mani Sir did try all of that above but nothing taken to its heights. On lighter note, I cracked the logic why – film doob gayi? All due to too much rain and waterfalls in the movie  he he….. What say Amit ji this would still make more sense than opting editing as the culprit 
A good different thought, great plot and equally well build up backdrop but lost in translation and low on meaty story. Brilliantly executed amazing cinematography by Sivan! Very ordinary\vague screenplay.
In performances, surprise package was amazing Govinda (surely here editing was at fault, there must be more than what finally came out); also equally Impressive Ravi Kiran. Overambitious Abhishek, the maturity & sincerity showcased in guru kant desai, was nowhere to be found. This was surely one role which was bigger than what he could have chew. Just good Aishwarya, did well overall. LSD’s actor made his presence felt however impressive Villain of Yashraj’s TV serial Powder was left as hijra, wasted.
Irritating performances by leads at times, come on can even Mani sir explain the repeated ‘kacchh-kaacchh” by Abhishek or the song with Aishwarya; god know why she doing that classic dance piece.
Interestingly used background score but doesn’t uplift like it usually does in Mani-AR combo. 2 songs still make us believe how well Rehman and Mani know each other. Ila arun successfully haunts with Ranjha-ranjha; was great. Also the 'ek aur gaya bechara' song was brilliant to watch & listen in movie. No other music piece worked even the whole dance song ' khilli re khilli' was so disconnected from movie & irritating.
In end, I liked watching this in theater however considering the movie coming from Mani Sir, Santosh Sivan and AR Rehman it was expected to be much more magical and long lasting.
