Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega Review {2/5} & Review Rating

The normal lifestyle of a middle class Indian is plagued with tensions. LOVE KE LIYE KUCH BHI KAREGA, directed by E. Niwas, takes an ironic and humorous look at the lives of these normal characters who dream, and try to realise them.

* There is Prakash (Saif Ali Khan), who wants money.

* There is Sapna (Sonali Bendre), who wants Prakash.

* There is Rahul (Fardeen Khan), who wants a decent job.

* There is Anjali (Twinkle Khanna), who wants Rahul.

* There is Aslam (Johny Lever), who wants to be a movie star.

* And finally, there is Harilal aka Harry (Aftab Shivdasani), who wants everything.

Saif and Aftab crave for money, but it is their want, not need. But for Fardeen, money is an absolute need. So what happens when Sonali is kidnapped by Fardeen and Aftab at the behest of Saif?

Remake of Ramgopal Varma's film MONEY, which in turn was loosely inspired by the 1986 hit RUTHLESS PEOPLE, LOVE KE LIYE KUCH BHI KAREGA is engaging, but in parts.

The film, a satire, makes digs at the materialistic world. Though a major part of the film is a kidnap drama, the writer and director team have infused gags and witty one-liners in the screenplay so as to avoid giving the film a gloomy look.

The comedy depicted in the film is not the David Dhawan brand of humour that appeals instantly. It is more of the Basu Chatterjee kind of hilarity that is sober and at times, classy.

The first half has several enjoyable moments, specially the Johny Lever track and his aspirations of becoming a celebrated film star. Even the placement of songs is perfect here. But the pace gets uneven in the second half, which is the main drawback of this enterprise.

The trouble with the screenplay is that in the post-interval portions, the pace drops at regular intervals. It gets slow, picks up again, turns slow yet again, but gathers momentum all over again in the climax.

Moreover, barring the Johny Lever track, which the masses would love, the humour is urban at most times, which will be appreciated by the 'Balcony' audience.

Director E. Niwas has developed the drama well, but he should've avoided giving the film an urban look. Vishal Bhardwaj's music is easy on the ears. The title track and 'Rama Rama' are well-worded (Abbas Tyrewala) and decent compositions. But it is 'Aslam Bhai' which will bring the house down. The picturisation of all the songs (Ahmed Khan) is first-rate.

Writer Rajnish Thakur shows a flair for light entertainers. The dialogues penned by him are witty, especially those that are targeted at the film industry. Cinematography (Venkat R. Prasad) is excellent.

Though all the three heroes have been given equal footage, it is Saif Ali Khan and Aftab Shivdasani who leave an impression. And that's mainly because of their impish characters.

Saif is extremely competent. The scenes with his father-in-law (Dalip Tahil) and Sonali Bendre are enjoyable. Aftab plays to the gallery and gives a good account of himself. Aftab has an edge over the other two heroes because his character is mass appealing. His scenes with Johny Lever are simply superb.

Fardeen Khan is just about okay, mainly because his characterisation is subdued. Both the heroines, Twinkle Khanna and Sonali Bendre, don't get enough scope to display histrionics. Johny Lever is fantastic as Aslam Bhai, but his role should've been short-n-sweet.

On the whole, LOVE KE LIYE KUCH BHI KAREGA is a mediocre film that will appeal more to those who enjoy sophisticated humour. At the box-office, the film should fare better at metros. Business in Mumbai, South India and Overseas should be the best.
