Joru Ka Ghulam Review {2.5/5} & Review Rating

Noorani Film Corporation's JORU KA GHULAM is a comedy entertainer. Dhaneshwar Pitamber (Kader Khan) is a billionaire with four daughters. All the four daughters are adamant that they won't marry, with each one citing their own reasons and excuses. They play mischievous pranks and their leader is the youngest daughter, Durga (Twinkle Khanna). Dhaneshwar is so desperate to get his daughters married that he is ready to give a big dowry of five crores to each son-in-law.

Raja (Govinda) and Kanhaiya (Johny Lever) are small-time con men at the airport. Mama (Ashok Saraf), their godfather, is an expert in the art of duping people. Raju Patel (Ali Asgar) is an NRI from America who comes to India to get married to one of the daughters of Dhaneshwar. Raja and Kanhaiya loot Raju Patel at the airport and come out with his belongings.

Dhaneshwar mistakes Raja as Raju Patel and takes him home. Raja learns of Dhaneshwar's problems and plans to earn easy money by getting married to Durga. When Mama suggests to Dhaneshwar that Raja and Durga should get married soon, Dhaneshwar lays down the condition that according to his family astrologer, all the daughters have to get married simultaneously or else, none of them would be happy.

In the end, Raja solves the problems of the daughters and convinces them to get married.

JORU KA GHULAM is inspired by the Shammi Kapoor hit of the 60s, TUMSE ACHCHA KAUN HAIN. In this case, the director has tried to follow the successful David Dhawan formula of playing to the gallery. The gags, punches, comic sequences and the three principal artistes -- Govinda, Kader Khan and Johny Lever -- that are associated with David's films, are part of this enterprise too.

The beginning is an indicator of things to follow. The emphasis is on light moments and pure entertainment; there is hardly any scope for dramatic portions in the script. There are some genuinely well-written comic scenes that tickle your haw-haw bone. Of late, Govinda starrers have been synonymous with the formula that caters to the masses and JORU KA GHULAM is no exception.

There are several cinematic liberties in the script too. Besides, the film could've done without the Ashish Vidyarthi track. But the enjoyable moments more than compensate the flaws in the screenplay.

It has been proved time and again that for any comic entertainer to succeed, it requires the support of two factors: One, the perfect timing for comedy scenes and two, witty dialogue. The chemistry between Govinda and Johny Lever is amazing and combined with some well written lines, there is no denying that the film will be loved by the hoipolloi.

Adesh Shrivastav's music belongs to the popular genre and at least three numbers stand out -- The title track, 'Khula Hai Mera Pinjra' and 'Tumhare Bina Ab Bahalta Nahin Dil'. These three numbers keep you in the mood with their zingy beats and brisk dance movements. Cinematography (Dinesh Telkar) is of standard. Dialogues (Tanveer Khan) are first-rate.

JORU KA GHULAM clearly belongs to Govinda. He is a treat to watch, lending grace to the most illogical of situations. This film hammers the fact, yet again, that when it comes to playing to the gallery, he is without doubt theEntertainer No. 1. Twinkle Khanna looks ravishing and emotes very well. This is among her better performances. Together, Govinda and Twinkle match each other at every step. Johny Lever is, as always, competent. The actor will be adored once again. Kader Khan and Ashok Saraf are alright. Ali Asgar is okay.

On the whole, JORU KA GHULAM is a decent entertainer that gives you your money's worth. With high entertainment value and a reasonable price tag, the film will have a smooth ride at the box-office.
