It was predicted in this column that Tere Ishk Mein will open in Rs. 12-14 crores range with an outside chance of hitting even Rs. 15 crores mark if the spot booking turns out to be better than expected. Well, by the time Thursday evening closed, advance booking numbers had given enough indications that Rs. 13-14 crores were easily within reach and anything could happen in the evening.
This is what happened as the collections turned out to be better and better, what with the day closing at Rs. 15.06 crores mark. This is quite good for the Dhanush and Kriti Sanon starrer as first and foremost, it’s a love story which has its own limitations when it comes to bringing in Day One audiences. Secondly, it isn’t a teenage feel good affair like Saiyaara, where you expect college goers coming in hordes from the very first show. On the contrary, it’s a mature love story for adult audiences with a dark theme to it as well, which makes it relatively niche.
Still, this Aanand Rai directed affair has opened like a good budgeted star driven affair and has in fact one of the better starts of the year when compared to so many other far more hyped films. While a weekend of Rs. 50 crores is a given from here, the eventual numbers would be bigger since a good jump should be seen today and then there would be an increment in numbers tomorrow as well. The real game would be a weekend of Rs. 55-57 crores and if that happens, then first week in the vicinity of Rs. 100 crores is a possibility as well.
