The main plot -- if you can call it that -- entangles itself between the Sensex's journey from 7,000 to almost 30,000 points and the love triangle that embroils the life of newcomer, clumsy Ritesh Jethmalani (Ankur)...

Saas Bahu Aur Sen Sex in more ways belongs not so much to Farooque Sheikh or Kirron Kher as much as it belongs to Udayan Mukherjee. Archived footage of India's most famous financial analyst and television presenter is flashed almost after every other scene.

Housewives budging from Saas-Bahu shows to sensex are refreshing, but it's so ridiculous to see sensex with 30,000 points in the climax and Shona should have precisely avoided this.

'Saas Bahu aur Sensex' is about kitty party housewives who turn into professional stock investors from saas-bahu serial fanatics. The film tries to show the Indian economy in a positive light, and encourages the people to invest in stocks for the development of the nation.

Saas Bahu Aur Sensex thankfully excuses us from all saas bahu style drama. It also excuses us from any sense whatsoever! With this preachy unrealistic ramshackle of a film, director Shona Urvashi proves why there are so few women directors because they can't make a film to hold even a woman's interest, let alone the country's.

Thematically the film faintly reminds of Sai Paranjpe's Katha (Naseeruddin Shah –Farooq Sheikh – Deepti Naval) with a gender reversal in the love triangle.

'Saas Bahu Aur Sensex' has a few feelgood moments, but on the whole, the movie fails to click. Firstly, the duration of the film is painfully long with a couple of unnecessary sequences (like the television show). Secondly, the overstretched love triangle takes the sap out of what could have been an interesting story of a bunch of middle-aged ladies making fortunes in share market.

Nobody could have played Firoz Sethna better than Farooque Sheikh and it is a delight to see Sheikh and Kher together.

Technically the film does not impress. The editing especially, that allows scenes like the call-centre training, to go and on.

That's Shona Urvashi's Saas Bahu aur Sensex. Probably well-intentioned as a movie about women bonding, it just doesn't have an original voice or sharp style to keep you engaged.

There's a little bit of saas bahu bickering and a little bit of sensex understanding, but more of a love triangle. In short, the movie has nothing to do with Saas, Bahu or Sensex.

The first half of the movie is entertaining and has few comic moments that kindle laughter, but as the reels unfold and the film indulges itself deeply into the share market and the perplexity in the love triangle, the storyline starts dragging and gets tedious to sit through.

The only one worth watching in this film is Farooq Shaikh, who plays a Parsi stockbroker with absolute ease.

1 of 1 people found this review helpful The film cuts regularly to a business channel and its coverage of the ever-fluctuating Sensex, but does so in an almost obligatory manner, never really getting into the whys and hows behind the fluctuations.
