The new Karzzzz doesn't work because it has no soul. It's a lazy rip-off where everything from characters to dialogues has been more-or-less duplicated, the only changes being superficial ones which grate rather than update.

It's a cruel irony that the extra alphabets at the end of the film's title actually translate into your going zzz?

This is a film positively laden with songs, and -- save for the classic Ek Hasina Thi track from the old film -- they're all completely forgettable. As a result the film drags on and on, at least a good forty minutes longer than it should, and we don't even have anything dancefloor-worthy to show for it? Sigh. Perhaps the earworms lived in the now-discarded baseball caps.

The age difference between Himesh and Shweta clearly affects their on screen chemistry. Too many songs in the first half prove a hindrance to the film's pace.

The problem isn?t in the story line ? well not all of it ? but also in the acting and the over all packaging of the flick.

This film is similar to Ghai's musical hit, starring Rishi Kapoor, in more ways than one. For starters, it sticks to the formula. There are enough songs, characters and twists shoved in to take your mind off the real story.

The movie is not boring, and even though one knows the story and the end is somewhat predictable, there is an element of suspense.

As we have already said, Himesh has created his own Monty. And once you get used to his unconventional looks, weird mannerisms and complete inability to dance, or hold a guitar right, you may just warm up to this guy. He has worked hard on his role and evidently so have his backroom boys, who have worked on his hair, his paunch, his stubble and his clothes. The hard work shows Himesh Bhai.

The movie begins well and keeps you glued to the screen even though you know what will happen. Full marks to Satish Kaushik here. But it is only towards the interval and beyond that the loose ends begin to show.

In all honesty the film could have been no other way and that's simply the best way to put it. You couldn't have made it look classy; the punch would have been lost. Nor could you have made it bare, it wouldn't make sense.

Truly, your heart goes out to Reshammiya for his sheer bravado. He?s improved since Aap ka Surroor but of course, he has many many more miles to go.

Keeping aside the last fast-paced 20 minutes of the film, Karzzzz starts loosing its grip in-between due to lousy editing. But the climax is a bit different from its parent film Karz. And, of course, there is enough freshness in the remake version to keep up with the recent times.

'Karzzz' never veers too far and sticks to the theme. The old saga of reincarnation and vengeance is also brought out full-throttle.
