Cheeni Kum is a very neat film, but the messy end the last three lines of dialogue exchanged by Bachchan and Tabu are the film's very worst leaves a peculiar aftertaste.

Bachchan explained that he had made several advertising films for Balki and liked his approach and work. When he read Balki's exhilarating script, he agreed to star in it. On his side writer-director Balki said that he had always wanted to work in feature films, and that he wrote this one with Bachchan and Tabu in mind.

Amitabh Bachchan is very good even when the scenes are going all awry like the one at the Qutub Minar in the latter part of the film. Tabu has more reactions than actions and underplays well. Paresh Rawal is not his usual self; he doesn’t grab you at all.

Tangdi Kabab is sweet and sane.. but after the intermission point, just hangs around to look defiant...

Cheeni Kum, which releases alongside Shootout at Lokhandwala might find stiff competition in getting a sensational opening week. Nevertheless, with all the appreciation has garnered, it might just bring about a pleasant change at the box office.

Tabu comes up with a fine act but her Hyderabadi accent is unmistakable in her dialogues. Paresh Rawal is certainly not at his near best. But that is not his fault. His role has been written in such a way that if offers very little scope for comedy.

Director Balakrishna successfully qualifies as a fine story teller and handles some of the sequences really well. The screenplay could have been better. The editing department lost out on a lot of scenes which drag, to say the least. Music director Illayairaja does well to compose tracks which gel with the theme of the movie.

Bachchan yet again surprises us with a performance with never been seen before nuances and understanding of the role. During his verbal skirmishes with the three women in his life, his mother, his girlfriend and his nine year old neighbour he adds that something extra which makes him tower above the rest.

The film suddenly loses its drive when the dad goes on a silly satyagraha to drive home his protest. Poor Paresh Rawal; the king of comedy has no comic lines to regale the audience. But remember, there's Mr Bachchan, boldly romantic like never before. Not since he crossed fifty.

Cheeni Kum' is a sweet and innocent relationship of an elderly man (Amitabh Bachchan) with his ailing six year old girl neighbor "Sexy" (Baby Swini Khara). It's an unusual but heartbreaking relationship where Amitabh spends quality time with the ailing girl...

While there are holes, Cheeni Kum is one dish that possesses all the ingredients to please audiences. If you're looking for a David Dhawan comedy, stay away. Otherwise, indulge yourself in a feast and make sure to relish each bite. It's worth it.

This movie is a novelty for India, a movie comprising mostly of intelligent, dialogue based humour rather than on situations (like Khosla ka Ghosla) or slapstick (most of the other Hindi movies that pretend to be comedies)...

Tabu is a natural scene-stealer and there seems to be no end to the surprises Amitabh springs on us. To imagine 'Cheeni Kum' without Amitabh is to imagine that pivotal Hyderabadi biryani that brings the couple together without saffron.

An apparent Hollywood influence, CHEENI KUM makes for a refreshingly mature Hindi film. Worldy wise, the movie is at best a wondrous feel-gooder and at worst a dash of humour gone awry...

It's almost as if Balki was at a loss after a while and just stretched the film. What's also a bit confusing is the tone of the film in both halves - it begins on a different note and ends on another. The disjointed feeling almost makes it look like two different films.

Cheeni Kum is indicative of the changing face of Hindi cinema and the subject is sensitively handled without being preachy or condescending.

With his touching portrait of an obstinate man who finds unlikely love, Amitabh excels in every scene. Be it the stand offs with Rawal, the comic sequences, or his relationship with a cancer-stricken child...
