Six couples and six stories are a lot to juggle, even for Nikhil Advani. Unfortunately he drops a few balls in this romantic saga, a saga that stretches runs for nearly four hours. Boasting of such an enormous star cast, expectations were naturally monumental for Salaam-e-Ishq...

2 of 5 people found this review helpful Salaam-E-Ishq is over hyped with a huge star cast and glamorous sets. But the script lacks the punch to keep the audiences engrossed and the execution has not been done adeptly. The film is too long and winding, and is just about average. At the box-office the film will benefit at the start due to its initial hype, but the film lacks substance and is disappointing. The film can be termed as just about average.

2 of 6 people found this review helpful Although there’s nothing really new about these three stories, at least the actors have given it their own feel. Now for the other stories. The Juhi Chawla- Anil Kapoor-Anjana Sukhani story seems too clichéd. The Salman Khan-Priyanka Chopra is too amateurish. This combined with the over-the-top performances of the two actors makes it very irritating. The Sohail Khan-Isha Koppikar story is too crass. Why are the two there in the film? Their track lends a cheap element to the film.

3 of 5 people found this review helpful I am really disappointed; I had lot of expectations from this movie. It could have really done well if it was fine tuned properly. It is worth watching once but you should also keep in mind that, the movie nearly touches 4 hour duration. (3.30 hours to be exact)

3 of 5 people found this review helpful The movie starts as lackluster and inane, picking up momentum only after the interval when it turns to be quite the tear-jerker. From his honorable mention time and again to dialogues high on the mush quotient, the movie definitely comes with the ‘Karan Johar’ twist. However, it isn’t half as snazzy as the promos suggest.
BOTTOMLINE: A tribute to love? Well, could be. But, a tribute to the ridiculous, most definitely!

3 of 5 people found this review helpful The quality of the editing is a little inconsistent. Fewer cuts with time and place slides inserted between them would have created a more streamlined effect and generated greater momentum. Each story has its own energy and trajectory but there is a collective momentum that the film achieves which puts it in a category above films like the Darna series where the stories are linked thematically and nothing more.

3 of 6 people found this review helpful The basic question is – is it worth spending 45 minutes at each end in despair for the almost 2.5 hours of good entertainment in between? Yes, but you don’t need to rush to the halls.

4 of 7 people found this review helpful Except for Anil-Juhi and John-Vidya, none of the aspects of the story leave a mark. I would call it a blatant exercise in gross excess of everything. And Mr Advani, constant reference to Karan Johar doesn’t make you a better filmmaker. In fact if you would have taken some advice from your former mentor may be he may have stopped you from committing this blunder.

4 of 7 people found this review helpful The movie drags somewhat in the first half; but gains momentum in the second. However the director fails to do justice to his 12 lead characters, with a majority of them, especially the likes of Sohail, Isha, Juhi and Ayesha having no significant role to play.
The movie is fun in bits and parts but disappoints overall considering it comes from the same director who gave us Kal Ho Naa Ho.

4 of 7 people found this review helpful Out of six stories running in parallel, only John-Vidya track seems to be completely justified, while remaining five are not at all well defined at the script level itself.

4 of 8 people found this review helpful ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’ could have been a much better film had it not got heavy and tiresome in the second half. Despite too many tear-jerking moments, there are hardly one or two scenes that genuinely stir your emotions. All the drama simply fails to make any impact.
Of the six stories, four meet together at a big fat Indian wedding in the end. Thankfully, there is some humour in the climax to send the audiences back home with a smile on their faces.

7 of 10 people found this review helpful Did I mention the film is too long? Trust me, it is. Finally, while it borrows the theme, format and even three plots (the ones featuring Alan Rickman, Colin Firth and Martin Freeman) from Richard Curtis's Love Actually, Salaam-E-Ishq never really celebrates the madness or magnitude of love. It merely skims the surface of the vagaries of its characters. As a result, you feel neither involved nor sympathetic.
If only Salaam-E-Ishq had got its priority right. It is an ode to mediocrity, not love or cinema.

7 of 10 people found this review helpful What one learns from the film is…
1. Love is a problem and a solution
2. Vidya Balan and Akshaye Khanna are great actors
3. Brands such as Ira and Times Now have a lot of money to spend (they are everywhere in the film in the form of product placements)
4. Nikhil Advani makes good but long films.

9 of 15 people found this review helpful The biggest culprit of this criminal waste of 3 hours 36 mins is Nikhil Advani. The guy who gave us Kal Ho Na Ho has gone independent from his mentor Karan Johar but the hangover of his mentor's style looms large throughout the film, reflecting mainly in the love for the length of the film. He has not directed but misdirected this film one feels as one leaves the cinema hall.

33 of 45 people found this review helpful So a good second film from the director of ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ – a film which ensures that Nikhil will have a pretty productive kal as a film maker in the industry .Go watch Salaam-e-Ishq, but just be prepared to spend a lot of time in the theatre, but for the most part, it is time well spent!!
