Filmmaker Karan Johar has once again proven that he is a master of launching star kids. With Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter starrer Dhadak inching closer to Rs 50 crore in its first week, the film has been declared a success by the makers. The film marked the Bollywood debut of Janhvi Kapoor while Ishaan Khatter finally got the recognition after making his debut earlier this year in Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds. With the film being an adaptation of Marathi blockbuster Sairat, the film was already under scanner for changing a lot of the storyline. But, the fans of the newcomers have showered them with great response and the makers are happy about the same.
As the film completes a week since the release, Karan Johar held a Dhadak success press conference this afternoon in Mumbai. Janhvi talked about her the feeling since the release and said, “Speaking for myself, I think I have a long way to go. I don’t think one film can mean success. Even though it means the world to me, I still feel that there is a lot more than I need to do and aspire to do, to earn love and affection and acceptance from people. I know that I need to do a lot more to earn that. But it is a stepping stone.”
Janhvi Kapoor also admitted that when she was criticized for her performance, she cried. She said, “I did a yay 100 times when they praised me and cried in the bathroom when it was a nay.”
Both Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor come from star families. When asked about making their own name while being labelled as star kids, Janhvi added, “I hope so. Speaking for myself, I think I have a long way to go. I don’t think one film can mean success. Even though it means the world to me, I still feel that there is a lot more than I need to do and aspire to do, to earn love and affection and acceptance from people. I know that I need to do a lot more to earn that. But it is a stepping stone.”
Ishaan Khatter said, “I am just happy that people are accepting and loving the characters and that I am able to be a part of that. It is their prerogative to label us as they deem fit. So I have no feelings about it.”
Karan Johar, producer of Dhadak, said that the film pays homage to Sairat and should not be compared. “We tried to give our own heartbeat to Sairat. Our box office has given us so much love,” he said at the press conference. Director Shashank Khaitan, who guided the newbies throughout the journey, said that he was happy with all kinds of reaction. He said, “I am very happy with all the love. I am happy with all the hate.”
Ishaan Khatter was grateful for the opportunity and talked about his experience working on the film. He said, “It was I think the most wonderful forty-four days of my working career. There was just so much love on set; there was so much love for these characters, for this story, for the context in which we are making the film. It was a great learning experience and I can’t trade that for anything else so I am just very grateful more than anything else.”
Dhadak, directed by Shashank Khaitan, stars Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter and Ashutosh Rana. The film released on July 20, 2018.
