With OMG, ‘Grazing Goat’ turns ‘Golden Goat’ for Akshay

It is a career high all over again for Akshay Kumar. His OMG Oh My God! first saw immense critical acclaim come its way which was soon followed by audience appreciation as well, hence turning into a clean hit. No wonder, his newly formed production house with Ashvini Yardi, 'Grazing Goat Productions', is finding a new nickname - 'Golden Goat'.

"For his newly launched production house which is looking at making concept oriented films, Akshay was brave enough to rope in Paresh Rawal as the main lead for OMG Oh My God! The gamble has paid off as the film has done extremely well ever since its release. It is all set to cross Rs.50 crores mark just in India in a matter of two weeks which is a huge deal considering it's offbeat theme as well as unconventional cast", an insider comments.

While his Hari Om Productions would continue to produce films, the success of OMG Oh My God! has been a welcome addition to some of Akshay's past biggie productions like Singh Is Kinng, Waqt and Khatta Meetha to name a few.

"Yes, there is no stopping biggies but with Grazing Goat, the endeavour is to make different kind of films", says a close associate of the actor, "For this production house, he and Ashvini have an altogether different thought process. She thinks out of the box which resulted in fortunes of first Zee and then Colors changing overnight. Now in films when everyone else is thinking only about the 100 crore club, they thought of OMG Oh My God! which is raking in great moolah in addition to critical acclaim."

The next outing from Grazing Goat would be a Marathi film 72 Miles which is again pitched as an offbeat entertainer. The film is in fact already completed and a strategy is being put together for a good theatrical release. Meanwhile there is also a buzz in the air that it has enough ingredients in it to find its way into National Awards as well.

On the other hand, when it comes to sheer moolah and box office standing, Akshay is now making merry in an eventful year that has seen him entering the 100 crore club twice over (Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore) already.

"Though Joker did turn out to be a downer commercially, it didn't harm him since he didn't speak about it. He was all charged up around OMG Oh My God! from the very beginning and to have three out of four of his films turning successful in a single year is a very good ratio", a trade source adds.

Now all eyes are on Khiladi 786 which would be released in December this year.

"The film is a huge addition to his 'Khiladi' franchise. In fact it is after a decade that he is being seen in a 'Khiladi' film. The promotion would kick-start any time now and if the film turns out to be a success, which is expected, it would only add on to Akshay's fortunes", the source continues.

With a baby girl already in the house and his career seeing a high as well, guess Akshay is all set for continued celebrations this year.
