Vidya not competing with Kareena & Katrina : Bollywood News

The Dirty Picture has netted Rs. 50 crores in one week flat which is a feat that has not been accomplished by any women-centric film in the history of Indian cinema. With this, Vidya Balan has not just managed to create a strong position for herself in the list of Top-5 actresses today; she is also just after Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Asin when it comes to registering such huge numbers.

"Yes, the only actresses who have managed such huge response for their films in the very first week are Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Asin. However, these films have prominently featured a strong male lead as well, hence turning out to be a combined effort more than just a heroine do all the talking. Whether it is 3 Idiots, Ra.One, Bodyguard, Ready, Ghajini, Golmaal 3 or Tees Maar Khan, each of which managed Rs. 50 crores in it's first week, there was a strong presence of Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar that was a major contributing factor", says a trade expert.

No wonder, as the list of saleable actresses is being redrawn with Vidya enjoying a steady audience for herself, especially after her earlier successes like No One Killed Jessica, Ishqiya and Paa, it is quite apparent that for the likes of Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone - the other contenders for the higher slots - there is some solid competition ahead.

Expectedly though, Vidya Balan maintains a diplomatic stance and isn't willing to pay much heed to the number game.

"Nooooo", she says animatedly, "I am not someone who is really bothered much about the number game. I don't understand the business of filmmaking and thank God for that. I am just happy that people have fallen in love with the characters I have played. I am in a happy stage but life moves on."

However, with the industry pegging her positioning in the industry as stronger than ever, she can't be expected to be oblivious to that face. After all she is pretty much in a league which otherwise was the playground of only Kareena and Katrina.

"See, I don't bother myself with how much is the other actor's film doing commercially", she says, â€œI am just happy in my own space and I hope that everyone's film works. We need people to come to theatres and for that everyone deserves a success. Honestly, I have never been a part of the rat race".

Well, now haven't we heard that before!
