Sridevi, Indian film industry’s first female superstar, breathed her last on Saturday, February 24 evening. The actress suffered a massive cardiac arrest and passed away on spot. Sridevi was in Dubai to attend Boney Kapoor’s oldest nephew Mohit Marwah’s grand wedding earlier last week. The Indian film industry is left in shock with the untimely demise of Sridevi. While celebrities are mourning the loss of Sridevi, Mr. India director Shekhar Kapur penned a heartfelt post remembering her.
Mr. India director Shekhar Kapur reminisced working with Sridevi with a tribute. The actress played the most amazing character who was funny, charismatic and emotional. Praising her immense hardwork and charisma, he wrote, “ You were the most exciting actress I ever worked with. Your energy on camera was scintillating. There was not a moment on screen that you did not have the audience in your grip. Be it an emotion, a comic moment, a dance. You were so innovative. You always did far far more than I asked of you . You were never less than surprising. As a human being you were incredibly supportive of those you were close to. I remember when everyone was going at me for a film that was threatening to fall apart .. you fought for me like a tigress. You were so loyal to your Directors. It’s unbelievable that you passed. Unexpected, sudden and shocking. It shook us all. We were waiting for Mr India 2 ! Honestly .. that film should have been made by now .. It’s devastating for Boney, your daughters and your family .. I know up there you will still be looking forward to your daughters debut .. but we will never get over your presence on this Earth, Sri Devi! “
In 2017, Mr. India completed 30 years and marked the reunion of the stars at MAMI film festival. The film starred Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in the lead. Sridevi’s iconic song ‘Hawa Hawai’ is still one of the finest songs. It was also the film that gave Amrish Puri the most flamboyant villainous look of all time as Mogambo. While people were raving about Amrish Puri & Anil Kapoor, Sridevi won hearts with her comic timing. Her Charlie Chaplin act in the film is still one of the most iconic scenes. The film also starred Satish Kaushik, Annu Kapoor and child actors Ahmed Khan, Aftab Shivadasani amongst others. It was also one last time the writer duo Salim Khan- Javed Akhtar came together for a film.
