Sanjay Dutt’s life is full of contradictions and vibrant colours and even putting it this way is an understatement. Rajkumar Hirani was inspired by this tale and made a film on it. The leading man he chose was of course Ranbir Kapoor who is touted to be one of the finest actors in Bollywood today. After yesterday’s trailer release, he walked away with all the praise and adulation. While the teaser generated a lot of buzz for Sanju, there is although more excitement for the film after yesterday’s trailer launch. Two big-ticket events for Sanju have already happened and there was one thing common between them: The obvious absence of Sanjay Dutt. During the teaser launch last month, the makers of Sanju informed us that Baba infact was shooting for Torbaaz in Kazakhstan and therefore could not make it. Yesterday too he was conspicuous by his absence at the Sanju trailer launch. Despite completing his schedule for Torbaaz, he did not come to the event but made an entry into the city at night on the same day instead.
1. Personal life out in open
The reason given this time was that Dutt had made a stopover in Dubai to shop for his wife and kids. A little convenient, no? There is a chance that he might be avoiding meeting the media and drawing too much attention on himself. Sanju is a deeply personal story and it takes a big heart to hand it over to a filmmaker to make a commercial movie out of it for public viewing. In the trailer too, Ranbir spoke about the trust Sanjay put in them to make a film on his life and said that he hopes to learn from all the mistakes Dutt made in real life. Probably, Sanjay Dutt (given how emotional he is) must be feeling a little overwhelmed by all this attention.
2. The Ranbir Connection
Rajkumar Hirani also revealed that Sanjay Dutt’s first reaction on seeing the teaser of Sanju was that Ranbir was so good that he said he might replace him in all the Munnabhai sequels. He said this jokingly but well, it is a little weird to see someone else playing you and portraying all those life experiences, resulting in making and breaking the person you are today.
3. The press invasion
Sanjay Dutt is not a media person and his interactions with press have been strictly limited. He might be a little wary of them asking a lot of questions about his personal life, including his leading ladies.
We’ll have to wait and watch if Sanjay Dutt’s stance continues. Though we would love to see him attend the future events. Produced by Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films in association with Fox Star Studios, Sanju is all set to be released on 29th June 2018.
